Sinister directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Ethan Hawke and Juliet Rylance follows the life of writer Ellison Oswalt as he makes an attempt to write his next best-selling novel.  As he struggles to get back on his feet, he begins his writing journey with moving into a new home that has a horrid past.  Keeping that past a secret from his wife and children, Ellison is best known for writing books centered around real murderers and murder victims.  As the family deals with preexisting strain it does not take long for Ellison to realize that it was a mistake to move his family into the house.

After the official move, Ellison discovers a box of home movies in the attic.  Believing that the movies could be useful research for his book, Ellison views the films and learns that strangely the home movies consist of footage of the actual murders.  As he continues to view the films, he is drawn deeper into the darkness that comes with being in the house.  When paranormal disturbances become prevalent, Ellison learns that there is a dark entity that potentially is the source of the murders.  The dark entity is an “eater of children” and consumes their souls over the course of time. When Ellison’s children become the target , the survival of his family is number one priority.  For the first time, Ellison transitions into a “real believer.”

Usually before I see a movie, I have some kind of background knowledge about it.  In this case I knew nothing about the film or what to expect from it.  Derrickson did a great job with the team of writers, production crew and visual effects artists to create a horror film that was meant to live up to the goal of scaring you. Overall the movie was well done.  The script was written well and the character development was realistic in its delivery and was presented in a way that was believable.  Ethan Hawke is not normally seen in this type of film,, so it was a pleasure to see him take on a character like Ellison. The score and sound were two other elements that added to the fear and made the movie more intense.  The score was an extension of telling the story and created a more balanced component to the film.

The idea of a demonic entity preying on children obviously has been done time and time again but It still brought a freshness to the world of horror.  I highly recommend this movie as part of your Halloween film list this season.  All the theatrical elements combined make this movie very haunting and entertaining.  I give Sinister four stars for its dark and malicious components that “draw in” the horror movie fan that gets a kick out of “things that go bump in the night.”

See you in theaters!!

How can a person be caught in a web of negativity?  There are so many things that can go on in a person’s life that can contribute to that.  The web is life and the things that make up life.  The negative aspects are obviously very overwhelming and vary in capacity.  What makes the whole thing even more difficult is the fact that you are stuck within a realm that is consistently holding you back mentally, spiritually and physically.  Sometimes you may feel like it is impossible to move forward or live up to the greatness that you are supposed to be and live.  Many people may say  “just remove that negativity from your life”  But I say that it is not that simple.  It takes time, patience and planning.  You must endure or tolerate certain negative aspects in your life so you can begin to set up the necessary building blocks to take one step at a time to move in the direction of the path you want to take.   The direction of positive change and high potential.  The whole idea is a process on its own but the end result will be good no matter how far away you think the journey is.  So no matter how tight my legs are tangled in the web, I will always manage to wiggle free, and embrace my creativity turning the web of negativity into weaves of positiveness and great success by overcoming my challenges and rising above it all.

Happy Reading and Writing!!

So much has been going on with my book since I last blogged about Swept into the Darkness.  The paperback version on my book will be coming out early October and will be sold on Amazon.com.  Currently I am reading the proof copy of the paperback.  I will be making some subtle changes within some of the chapters. It’s amazing the mistakes you can find even after you have read and reread the book several times and even had it edited multiple times!  October is also Indie Author month, and to celebrate all Indie authors I will be participating in a Facebook book promotion.  The event has been extended until the end of November so I will have a book cover spot on November 26th.  Also my official book release will be coming up soon and the actual dates will be announced via my site and twitter once I get those dates approved by my book release host.  That event will also take place on Facebook and will be by ” SPECIAL INVITATION ONLY.”  I am in the process of obtaining some nice prizes for my upcoming Goodreads promotion which will be announced within the next couple of weeks.  In addition to that I am looking for readers to review my book.  So if anyone is interested in providing me with a review please drop me an email and I can send a PDF copy of my book to be reviewed.  I am only looking for the serious reviewer.

As I am working on promoting Swept into the Darkness Chronicles of the Celestial book one, I am typing up book two and writing book three.  Busy, busy, busy.  Please note that this weekend I will post part three of my fall movie preview series.  I know that many of you have been coming on to look at my previews.  I apologize for being late with part three.  I just have been so busy with my book not to mention that I have a new baby at home.  🙂

Happy reading and writing!!!

The second movie within my fall preview series is a film called The Possession.  Produced by Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures this movie follows the true story of a family experiencing demonic possession.  When a little girl becomes crazy obsessed with a small-sized wooden box that she purchased from a local garage sale, life in the home starts to get unsettling.  As Em’s obsession for the box grows, her behavior becomes more peculiar with time. The haunting activity within the home is indeed disturbing.  Em’s parents do everything they can to seek answers as they make an attempt to save their daughter from the evil spirit that inhabits her soul.

I know some of you may say ” Not another demonic possession movie!”  but really as a true horror fan, for me I can not get enough of these type of horror movies.  Always excited about what Raimi produces creatively, I feel that this movie is going to do well for opening weekend.  Starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffery Dean Morgan, Raimi will no doubt fill seats in theaters in anticipation for this film.  I am looking forward to seeing some classic Raimi represented in the film and hope that this makes a lot of noise at the box office.  The movie is  expected to open in theaters August 31st.

Check out the trailer below, Enjoy!!

I checked out my sources and it seems like this fall and winter is going to be great season for new movies.  There are so many good movies to be released that I decided to do a series of movie previews on my site.  As the summer officially comes to a close I get geared up for the fall and expect a nice array of horror flicks to be released in theaters and on DVD.  A few movies to put you in the scary mood are first and foremost a movie called The Apparition, starring some familiar faces from Twilight, Harry Potter and Captain America: The First Avenger.  This movie tells an interesting story about a group of students that set out to prove that supernatural and paranormal events can occur if you create them in your mind and believe in the idea that you created. Check out the trailer below.  This movie is to be released August 24th.  Just by watching the trailer I am sold on the whole idea and really hope that it does a decent job in theaters.  For those die-hard horror fans that appreciate the genre, I think that you will give it a shot and be happy that you did.  Enjoy the trailer and Happy Reading and Writing!! Well Summer is still here, which is a good thing, but I will be excited for the fall to arrive so I can resume with my book promotion, start the process of publishing the paperback version of Swept into the Darkness, the first book in my Chronicles of the Celestial series.  After the the release of the paperback I will be doing everything that comes with the release of a new book.  I did finish writing the second book in the series which is now titled Swept into Betrayal.  There were some major changes that I made with some of the characters and events so the name change fits into what is going on with the storyline. I found a few new prospects when it comes to book promotion, and I plan on using all the tools I can get my hands on to get the word out.  Now It is about increasing book sales.  The book is indeed a great and exciting read and there is no reason why readers would not fall in love with the series.  I am excited to start plans with the upcoming tour as well.  I did some reasearch and noticed that there are many good companies willing to host my tour.  As of now though, I have not decided on which company will host my book tour.  My book was published in June and there is still just as much work left to do now than ever.

As I continue to recoup from childbirth and settle into motherhood, I learn something new everyday from my baby.  As I write this, I have to stop and check on him since I hear him making noise…… It so so nice to finally have my son out in the real world but I must admit it is very hard.  Even with lots of help from my dear husband, mother and mother in law I am exhausted beyond words.  I don’t know how I am walking at this point.  I see the purpose of full-time, live in nannies.  I applaud all those that help to take care of babies and children for a living.

Despite everything that has happened over the past few months, and weeks that has brought me complete happiness, being in the house for so long has taken a toll on me.  I think it is making me more tired just being inside.  The weather is really too hot to take the baby out, so staying in under the Ac is the best option.  This is the first summer that I have had to remain indoors for most of the summer.  I still have a couple more weeks before I am able to drive again.  This last thing I did was see TDKR which was wonderful.  It made me appreciate Christian Bale even more as an actor and person after the movie theater tragedy.  This weekend I am looking forward to my first glass of wine in almost a year.  I know I have been ranting for some time, but I hope that this month I will have the chance to have some freedom and venture off out somewhere else besides the movie theater.

Still Reading Deadlocked.  Actually had to stop my evening reading due to my new schedule, but I plan to resume this weekend.

Happy Reading and Writing

Directed by Christopher Nolan and Starring Christine Bale and Micheal Caine, The Dark Knight Rises is the third film in the modern “Batman” franchise.  Eight years after the death of Harvey Dent, and life long friend Rachael Dawes, Gotham City does it’s best to cope with the loss of a hero.   A broken Bruce Wayne is now isolated and disconnected from a world where he was always in view of the public. Two new villans take the scene in this film, a lovely thief that makes her way in the world by kicking ass and stealing,(Catwoman, played by Ann Hathaway) and a masked protector that seeks nothing but the traditional thing that most superhero villans want; money, power and control over others (Bane, played by Tom Hardy).  As Bane terrorizes the city, a distraught Bruce Wayne aka Batman slowly but surly makes his way back into the limelight trying to protect Gotham and it’s citizens from destruction.

As Bruce Wayne continues to deal with loosing people he loves, the inner struggle he faces grows more intense.
Despite the reconstruction of Wayne manor, the scars that Bruce carry run deep within his spirit and help him to evolve into an even more complex character than we are used to seeing.  Nolan does a wonderful job continuing the telling of “Batman’s” story through the camera lens.  The introduction of the new villans and the directions they are taken  in puts an interesting twist on the overall story.  The action scenes were wonderful as would be expected from a Nolan film.  The all-star cast each played their parts well and made their roles believable and unique to their portrayal.  The special effects were engaging and appropriate for a film of this caliber.  The end has some surprises for sure, and will have the movie goer in tears and in all smiles.  This Blockbuster movie is a must see!! I give The Dark Knight Rises Five stars and hope that a fourth film may surface so that the Batman legacy will continue.

Well Everybody.. I am back!  Back as a completely new person, with a new role…   My little bundle of joy entered the world on July 5th.  Its been quite an exciting challenge adjusting to motherhood and recouping from the delivery.  This is actually the first time I have sat in front of my laptop in weeks.  I am not really sure how long it has been but to tell you the truth it feels really good to be blogging again.  It feels great just to get my thoughts down and fingers back into the flow of writing.  My book promotion plan has been put on hold until I can get my son on an official schedule.  I know I have mentioned the schedule before but it is harder than I thought it would be.  My time really revolves around him at this point.  As far as my book is concerned I will be sticking to my original plans which includes submitting my press release, promoting through goodreads, twitter , Facebook and all of the other sites that encourage self publishing.  The paperback will be released early fall which will also be the beginning of my book tour launch.  I need to obtain some book reviews.  I will start the process of that as well.

My latest book profile can be found on bookdaily.com under my name LaTaeya Lane or the title of my book Swept into the Darkness.  The profile is still fairly new and I am still in the process of updating and making changes to the profile.  Also my video trailer is up and running live on you tube, so if people want to get the gist of what my book is all about you can click on the video link on my book page or just go directly to YouTube and type my name Lataeya1 or enter the book title Swept into the Darkness.  For the month of July I will also be participating in the Smashwords summer book promotion.  My book Swept into the Darkness: Chronicles of the Celestial Book one will be available for fifty percent off.  Download your copy today.  Stay tuned for coming updates.

I finally got my copy of Charline Harris’ DeadLocked.  I just started so I am very excited to see where the story will go.

I finally finished my video book trailer and it is officially up and running live on YouTube.  It is actually a lot work to create something like that on your own and I am very pleased with the end result. The entire project was a lot of fun and I was able to tap into a form of creativity that I really never touched on before.  I have a link to the Trailer on my Book Page but I will also provide the link here so that if anyone wants to see it they can.  This trailer represents the mood of the journey that my main character Sydney London takes throughout book one in the series.  Just by watching the trailer you can walk through the various points of her experience.  Her supernatural abilities, and the challenges of being different as a child.  Her adulthood and the idea that she is on the verge of finally excepting that she will always be different.  Sydney’s encounter with other supernatural beings and the concept that she is willing to do anything to save someone she loves is something else that she must deal with, in addition to falling in love and making an attempt to save the world from destruction.  This young woman has a lot on her plate not to mention coping with a past that just will not stop haunting her. Check it out!
