Godzilla_(2014)_poster

Godzilla starring Bryan Cranston,Aaron Taylor-Johnson,and Ken Watanabe, follows the story of nuclear scientists and the military as they discover, and battle a creature that unleashes a wrath of prehistoric proportions on a modern-day world.

The Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures duo outdid themselves in the apocalyptic action adventure.

Monsters, and Dinosaurs Oh My!!

After the accident and death of Joe Brody’s wife in a Japan Power plant,Brody sets off on a 15 year study where he learns that all the strange geological activity in Japan is actually being covered up and is something else entirely different.

With the discovery of strange prehistoric creatures,a chain reaction of events leads to humanity fighting for their world.

Once the terrestrial creatures are unleashed, they destroy everything in their path to mate with each other. As scientists learn that the two are communicating with another creature, the race begins as the military fights to save the world from destruction. Another creature surfaces to claim American territory. As Godzilla reeks havoc upon American soil, he is threatened by the two monstrous forces. Godzilla battles the two and defeats the creatures and claims the title King of the monsters.

The story line was engaging, and every scene was directed and delivered in way that kept the movie goer interested. The destructive scenes were exciting and there was a balance of special effects and sound that united all the elements of the story.

The movie had a unique tone to it that subtly paid homage to the original Godzilla. It was a remake that did the original great justice and enhanced the story further. There are talks that a Warner Bros sequel is in the works, which will make movie goers happy. This was a movie that technology embraced to the fullest but wasn’t over shadowed by it.
I gave this movie 5 stars! A must see for Memorial Day Weekend!

The A&E Horror series Bates Motel starring Freddie Highmore is the prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
The show is very interesting and shows the growing psychotic relationship between Norman and his mother Norma.

Bates Motel opens with the mysterious death of Norman’s father, and Norman discovering his body. Distraught and shocked Norman and Norma try to move past it by starting fresh, and moving to a new town. Norma purchases the Seafair Motel in hopes of building a successful business and making a good life for her son. Before they even have a chance to settle in, they are confronted by the previous owner of the property. Upset that he lost his home and business he breaks onto the house one night, attacks and rapes Norma. Norman walks in and discovers his mom is hurt. He knocks out Keith Summers and Norma stabbs him several times.
Determined to keep the murder a secret Norma and Norman disposes his body.
This murder and secret is the beginning of a chain of events that lead Norman and Norma on a downward spiral into the pit of darkness.

The show is exciting and has some very interesting storylines. The introduction of an older brother is fresh to the Psycho theme in addition to Norman’s blackouts.
I really don’t have too many complaints concerning this show except for the time period. The time period can be very confusing. The house and style of the show is presented in a way that is authentic to the time the original takes place, then is interrupted by the introduction of modern technology.
Norman and his mother dress and act like they are from the 50’s and 60’s. Then the second they take out a cell phone or go on the computer, it takes away from the authenticity of Hitchcock’s legacy.
Bates Motel is a great show and shows great promise. The characters have good on screen chemistry and I love the way the writers are developing the relationship between Norman and his mother.

The Marvel Studios production, Ironman 3 starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Shane Black was a good film considering some of the negative reviews that have been written about the film. Black is fairly new to the directing scene and is known for writing for the popular 80’s action flicks Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2, and Lethal Weapon 3.
Ironman 3 picks up sometime after the Avengers have saved the world from an intergalactic alien invasion. A disturbed Tony Stark is in the process of trying to deal with the shock of knowing that other worlds and beings exist. He is also adjusting to being in a steady relationship with Pepper.
The normalcy of life quickly comes to a halt when Tony learns that the world is once again under attack by a terrorist. The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley. He is a vicious killer and will do anything to get what he wants. The government acts quickly and sends Colonel James Rhodes out on a mission to search for the terrorist. An old acquaintance of Tony’s surfaces Aldrich Killian, and makes Pepper an offer for Tony to be a partner in his DNA altering project. Pepper declines and little do they know that Killian has a more malicious agenda in mind. Tony calls out The Mandarin and soon his home is under attack. Barely making it out alive Tony and Pepper survive, but their home is destroyed. As Tony searches for The Mandarin he quickly learns that he is a fake, an actor and that his real enemy is Killian. Killian has developed a way to heal the physically disabled, but has changed them into heat resistant mutants. He has created these beings to destroy Stark and the world. His plan is to become the world’s most powerful terrorist. He kidnaps the President and Pepper and tries to use Tony’s love for her to get him to work for him.
Tony and Killian battle it out in the traditional fight between good vs evil.
Overall I thought that Ironman 3 was a good movie. The first two were better, but that still doesn’t take away from the film. Black was creative in his representation of Ironman. There were a lot of action pact scenes and creative concepts that haven’t been done before with Ironman. The effects were good, the score was disappointing.
I give this movie 3 1/2 stars.

Oz The Great and Powerful:movie review
Oz The Great and Powerful directed by the talented and creative Sam Raimi and starring James Franco tells how the origin of the Wizard of Oz came to be. Franco plays a struggling magician part of a traveling circus. A good man at heart, unfortunately Oscar learns how to live his life by tricking the people around him in order to make ends meet. After a day of creating illusions for a show Oscar is swept away in a hot air balloon when he is caught in a tornado.
(The introduction of the movie starts out in black and white just like the original Wizard of Oz.)
Oscar prays that if his life is spared he will change. And suddenly everything stops and he enters another world, Oz. From there on the movie is (shot in color.)
Oscar is memorized by the magic and uniqueness of this place. He soon meets a beautiful woman (Mila Kunis) that admits she is a witch and charms her just like he charms every beauty that walks into his life. In no time Oscar learns that this beautiful land is in trouble and is in search for the one that will save the people of Oz from the wrath of a wicked witch. Oscar quickly makes the people believe that he is the Great Wizard that the prophecy predicted. He uses his charms, wit and ability to create illusions to claim a throne of riches and fame that does not truly belong to him. Once he learns that he is in the middle of a great battle for power among three powerful witches (Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams) he backs out trying to turn his back on the people and the mission to save the land. Forced to demonstrate his true nature of good he soon teams up with Glina the good witch and utilizes his trickster ways to create the ultimate illusion to defeat the two witches.
This movie is actually a prequel to the Judy Garland original. Sam Raimi did an excellent job directing this epic adventure. It was different than the classic Sam Raimi films that his fans know so well but he did not disappoint. The movie was filled with special effects. The effects were created with skill but there were times that I felt I was in Tim Burton’s world. Overall the movie was very entertaining and thrilling. The 3D version of this film did not enhance the cinematic experience for movie goers. That component was pointless. I would not recommend spending the extra money to see this film in 3D. The writing was creative and the make up was artistically developed. Mila Kunis’ makeup as the wicked witch was over the top with added laytex and construction considering the original witch had an elongated nose, warts and green face paint. The costume design was another element that added to the magic of this film. My goal for this review was not be long and obviously I did not meet that goal. ( LOL) The movie is a must see for adults and children to enjoy. I give this movie four stars.
Happy Reading!

I usually don’t blog about things related to the entertainment industry but I had to get this off my chest. Okay so what if Beyonce lip sang during the Presidential Inauguration. People think that it is the end of the world and the media eats it up. It makes me sick. There are so many other important things going on in the world that we as a society need to worry about. When I saw the news story this morning and saw Beyonce singing live, I said to my self “oh boy!” now she needs to prove to everyone and validate herself as a performer. Then on top of that Beyonce’s appearance is just to promote her upcoming Superbowl Performance. Its all about getting the right PR and piggybacking off of whatever publicity you can get. just look at Lindsay Lohan. So many entertainers are so over rated these days. People need to do something else with their time!!! Gotta go, I have writing to work on.

My life has been filled with constant changes over the past nine months, but especially over the past few weeks.  I’ve been so busy with preparing for the arrival of my son, my book promotion and writing the next book in the series that I hardly have time to jot down whats going on in my blog.  First of all at this point in my pregnancy I am ready to have my baby and somewhat return to normal.  The nights are the worse for me.  It is so hard to get a decent nights sleep.  My son plays and wiggles around like he is having a party or something.  It starts around ten.  He will settle down for an hour or so and by midnight he is all over the place.  I will watch tv sitting up and close my eyes when I can, before I know it, it is around four in the morning.  This is the time when he really comes alive with so much energy.  It seems like the best sleep I get is in the latter morning hours between five and eleven.  I’ve done a lot of research and most of the books and internet sites say the same thing.  They say that most babies in the womb start the show their newborn patterns during this time in the pregnancy.  If that is true I will be working hard to put my baby on a schedule as soon as I can.

When it comes to my book Swept into the Darkness, I am doing everything I can to get noticed as a serious author.  I am now a goodreads author and have my book and profile all set up.  It is still a work in progress.  I never realized how challenging promoting yourself on goodreads could be.  Its one obstacle at a time but I will do my best to make it work.  I published the book through KDP so now my book is up live and available for purchase on Amazon Kindle.  I am so very happy that worked out because I was a little worried when I found out that smashwords was having some distribution issues with Amazon Kindle.  The links to purchase my book can be found on my Book Page on this site.  I am still waiting for Barnes and Noble to have my ebook stocked and available.  I have no idea what the delay is but I am getting very frustrated over waiting and checking the status and not seeing my book up.  It is so very important to have my book available to the major channels so that everyone has the chance to get it on whatever reading device they have.

Book two in my Chronicles of the Celestial series is progressing very well and at this point I will be able to soon start entering it into my laptop.  I will be working on preparing book one for the paperback edition to be released early this fall, so I am looking forward to all the new changes, improvements and developments that this summer will bring inaddition to the fall.

Happy reading and Writing

Everything has been so crazy lately.  But crazy in a good way.  I am moving along with my final rounds of edits of my debut novel Swept into the Darkness.  I am working on my final chapters and then finally I will be ready to send it to my editor.  I am going over the book with a fine tooth comb so that I can give her a clean manuscript without her having to do too much editing.  I am so excited to be at this point in my work.  I am also more than half way done with book two Swept into Revenge.  I completed my press release and will be ready to officially send it very soon.  I really see that publishing your own work comes with a long list of responsibilities especially if you are taking it as a serious new career move like me.  The list makes me even more motivated and focused on what I really want as a published author.  My husband and I found out that we are having a baby boy, which excites me greatly, so I have also been busy with making plans and getting myself more organized for the baby.  I havent seen any other good movies lately but I think within the next week I will make it to the theater.  I am still reading History is Wrong.  It’s taking me a while but I find it hard to read at night sometimes, I’ve been so tired that by the time my head hits the pillow I am out.  Some times I don’t even realize I dozed off until I hear the book fall to the floor.  Lol and sorry for all the “I’s”

Happy reading and writing!!!!!

The Woman in Black Directed by James Watkins and starring Daniel Radcliffe is a story about a young lawyer who is plagued with the grief of his wife’s death.  Now a single father Arthur Kipp must do everything he can to keep from falling apart.  He is sent on a job to a small village to retrieve paper work for a house that must be put back on the market.  Little does he know that this job would open him up to a world of paranormal activity and capture him upon the border between life and death.

This Spiritual Horror is based on the novel written by Susan Hill.  Set in the late 1800’s in a dreary England, the slow-moving beginning opens with the scene of three young girls playing happily.  Their happiness soon turns into despair when they suddenly stop playing and make their way over to the window to jump out.  Obviously not in their right minds,  This scene does not do too much for movie goers but we were all eager to take the theatrical journey.  After the suicide the movie proceeds to introduce the main character and his purpose.

On the verge of loosing his job, Arthur arrives at the remote village to begin his work.  He finds that the towns folk are very distant and unwelcoming.  There is something terribly wrong with the atmosphere of this town, and there is no doubt that Arthur feels the tension that the town is giving off.  He eventually settles in and makes his way over the house.  Transported by horse and carriage he arrives at the eerie mansion.  All alone he is left with his thoughts and the work he must do.  Once he settled in he, familiarized himself with the property and automatically is distracted by suspicious sounds and the visions of ghostly apparitions.  The subtlety of the activity up to this point is not impressive to me.  Creepy bumps, and other noises just makes Arthur feel like he must investigate the house and property.  What is interesting about this part is that Arthur learns some valid information about the owner of the house and her family history.    Fortunately by the time things slightly intensify he is picked up and must return to the village for the night.

At this point in the movie things really start to pick up as the director fully takes you into the story deeper.  A child ends up dead and Arthur’s presence sets off a chain of events that makes the towns folk more fearful than ever.  The ghostly superstitions that the town holds slowly surfaces  and turns real the longer Arthur works in the house and stays in the village.  Determined to get his work done to provide for his four-year son he decides to spend the night in the house to get more accomplished.  This night is the most chilling and is the turning point where the director and writers as a whole step it up in their cinematic delivery.  The woman in black makes her presence fully known as this thriller now officially turns into a horror.  Things go pump in the night and the haunting of this woman deeply intensifies.  Screams heard near and far, the movie is filled with suspense and action and keep you interested.

I do not want to provide any more spoilers but The Woman in Black for me was a fresh take on an old recurring theme.  It was not the traditional hunted house movie, despite some of the traditional elements, such as the screams, or the anticipation building music, and the parts where you think something is about to jump out but it is something totally non threatening.   Daniel Radcliffe preformed very well considering this is his first on-screen movie role since Deathly Hallows part II.  It was hard to not see Daniel as Harry.  I felt like his glasses and wand were missing in some parts, but I feel that taking on new and exciting adult roles will be great for his career.

Over all I think that the movie was quite thrilling and the director  and crew did a wonderful job with creating and drawing you into the authentic element of the original novelist’s vision.  I give this movie a B+ rating.  I cant wait to see what Radcliffe has planned for his next project.
