The Walking Dead, mid season premier didn’t have me on the edge of my seat like the finale did. Even though I was so excited to experience the journey with Rick and Carl, I couldn’t help but feel that the episode was pretty much uneventful.
I must admit that there were some very important discoveries made when it came to Michone. We learned a little more about her past and saw more of a vulnerability to her character, which was refreshing to see.
Rick suffers from some potentially life threatening injuries when he had his battle with the governor. As he and Carl try to manage to pick up the pieces after the war, the emotional war of battling loss and the father and son relationship they had, meets even more challenges.
They move on foot scavenging for the basic necessities of life. Carl makes an attempt to try to protect his father by assuming a leadership role, but Rick does his best to try to keep Carl’s childhood innocence alive.
I was so excited to see what had happened to everyone else that left the prison, but unfortunately the episode on focused on Rick, Carl, and Michone.
Rick’s injuries soon get the best of him and he slips into a coma. At this point I wasn’t really nervous for him because Rick has been going nonstop since Atlanta. His body just shut down, and after everything he has been through, he is after all-human.
Rick needed to rest, and was in desperate need of medical attention.
An angered and frightened Carl feels that he is ready to let his father go, and states that he can survive alone and tells Rick that he can die. He ventures off on his own to find food in a neighboring home and quickly faces a Walker scare that almost gets him killed.
Carl’s bravery is unprecedented. He retreats back to where Rick is and soon believes that Rick will die. A torn Carl tries to handle the situation and Rick slowly comes out of his coma.
Michone follows the trail left by Rick and Carl, as she manages to begin her own journey alone. Her emotions go awry as she reminisces over the life she once had and copes with what life has become. While she pushes on, she eventually finds her way back on the steps of the house where Rick and Carl are.
Predictions:
I think that Michone will take care of Rick, to help him get back on his feet. Now that we know that Michone was a mother, her closeness with Carl is better understood. She had a son and knows what’s it’s like to have that mother-son bond. Michone will fall in love with Carl and Rick and with the feeling and ideas of what family represents. Michone is going to give the Grimes boys a sense of family again. Once she walks back in their lives her presence will give them hope to find the others.
I’m so curious to find out where the second half of this season will take fans.
Episode Bonus: The opening scene, where Michone goes back to the prison to find Hershel as a Walker and surprisingly all that is left is his head. I thought that was a great way for fans to officially say goodbye to Hershel.

Things are brewing in Port Charles, and the excitement is building to such a degree that it is almost explosive.
Patrick finally knows that Sabrina is pregnant with his child. This whole thing is a great set up for Robin to leave. Now that Victor has made an offer for Robin to revive Helena and Starvos, this is the perfect time to bring Jason Morgan Back. Yes it is true that Steve Burton will soon make his comeback to GH, where he belongs. Jason Morgan is alive!!! His picture has been plastered on the screen for a short while but that’s enough to get fans in gear for what is to come. I believe that Jason will be the key to Sonny ending the war with the Jerome’s.
Julian Jerome has broken the ice with his son Lucas which will open the door for him to join his father. I’m not sure how Julian will take his son’s news about being gay, but at this point Brad might as well say goodbye to Felix.
The most exciting elements this week is the revelation between Ben and the assumptions that Elizabeth has about Ben’s paternity. I can’t wait until Dante and LuLu find out the child is theirs. Britt will loose Nicolas over this which will make it easier for Elizabeth to reclaim her love for him.
The Carley and Franco storyline is being dragged out too long and no matter how Kiki believes in Franco’s innocence, she has damaged her relationship with Michael, maybe beyond repair.
I can’t wait to see how the week ends.

NBC’s Dracula

NBC’s Dracula starring Johnathan Rhys Meyers is an exciting show that has great potential. The story follows the centuries old vampire as he is awakened by the famous Van Helsing. The two have suffered a great deal in the past by The Order of the Dragon and they team up to seek revenge against them. Dracula goes by the alias Alexander Grayson, as he assumes the identity of an American business man. He quickly realizes that his long-lost love has been reincarnated and takes the form of a high society woman aspiring to become a doctor. Grayson’s love for Mina is stronger than ever. While he seeks his revenge he also seeks to live in the sun so that he can get close to Mina and reclaim his love for her.
Season One was just the introduction of a potentially great and exciting adventure. I think that NBC was brave to try to take on a show like this, but I really feel that this show would benefit better from being on a premium cable network such as HBO or Showtime. Every one knows that Dracula is a sensual, dark, and ruthless creature that will stop at nothing to get what he wants. I think that the show could better reflect those elements on cable. With it being on NBC, there is still a lot that must be taken into consideration when looking at content and censorship. The show has introduced some controversial themes, but clearly must hold back to a certain degree.
Season Two is still being questioned because of fluctuating ratings, but I hope that one of the cable networks pick up the show for season two. Johnathan Rhys Meyers is a great actor and is perfect for the role. Being on a cable network will also give him the chance to embrace or channel his inner King Henry the VIII.

General Hospital Spotlight
Welcome to a new feature of my blog called General Hospital Spotlight. Most of my readers were unaware of my love for the soap. I’ve been a fan for many years and have been watching the show since the 90’s. My cousin and I go back and forth discussing the storylines and making predictions. Thoughts of the show linger in my consciousness, so I decided to write them down. I hope all fans enjoy this piece.
Lets begin with the juicy storyline of the war between Sonny, the Jerome’s and Morgan’s involvement with the whole thing. I love Sonny but he is so stupid if he actually believes that Morgan could be loyal to him. He is doing a terrible job playing both sides. Getting caught with Ava twice by two different people doesn’t look good. I’m glad Sean questioned Morgan, but I hate that he overheard them talking the other day. Why would Sonny tell Morgan about Duke? That is going to blow up in all of their faces. I think Morgan will end up dead by the time the war is over.
The Jerome’s are a slick group and I think that Julian will eventually recruit his son Lucas and convince him to join him. I believe that is why Carly has to deal with Heather’s crazy shenanigans, so the writers can introduce that storyline.
I’m getting a little tired of Heather Webber. I think most fans are. I don’t care for the new storyline of Scott and Heather being Franco’s parents. Once Carly and Franco finally get together again in the public, their relationship will not last long. I really hope that someone finds her and saves her. Its just a matter of time. I hope that someone gets rid of Heather for good.
The Silas Clay situation and the presence of the new Port Charles detective Nathan is getting very exciting. I’m curious to find out how far it will go and to see what real secrets Silas has hidden away.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug directed by Peter Jackson was absolutely Amazing!! The movie goer is immediately sucked into Bilbo’s adventure. The film opens with Gandalf and the Dwarf King Thorin meeting at the Prancing Pony, a familiar place that all fans reconigize from TLOTR.
The film moves quickly as Bilbo and the Dwarves continue their journey to The Lonely Mountian. On their journey they meet friends, and foes, and embrace many challenges along the way. The great evil that lurks in the shadows is introduced and Gandalf battles the evil to some degree. We are shown the power that lies within the gray wizard. The Woodland Realm Elves make their mark, as so many other story elements are revealed. The on screen presentation of The Dragon Smaug mentally and creatively altered my imagination. Every aspect of this film demonstrates a form of creativity that I have never seen or experienced before. The actors, special effects, score, writing, and director was spectacular! Peter Jackson is a creative genius and should be considered for a life time achievement award in film. This movie is a must see. Jackson and Tolkin has elevated the fantasy genre to such a degree that I don’t think no one else can top. I give this movie 5 stars! I’ve got to see it again OMG!

Walking Dead Season 4 “Midseason finale
Posted in Fantasy literature, tagged Amazon author, AMC shows, Andrew Lincoln, Author Lataeya Lane, Barnes and Nobel Books, goodreads author, Is the Governor really dead, Robert Kirkman, Swept Into The Darkness Author, Walking Dead midseason finale on December 4, 2013| Leave a Comment »
The Walking Dead mid season finale aired this past Sunday on AMC, and I must say that it was one of the best episodes in a very long time.
The return of The Governer had a traumatic impact upon everyone in the prison, as he tried to force his way in. Rick, no longer claiming leadership of the group was forced to take that role again in hopes to negotiate a deal with The Governor as Philip holds Michone, and Hershel as hostages. Things grow in intensity as The Governor is on the verge of waging a war against Rick. As Rick pleads with him, to release Hershel and Michone, The Governor holds Michone’s sword up to Hershel’s neck. Everyone in the prison looks on as they prepare for to defend their land. Just as Rick thinks he has come to an agreement for everyone to live in the prison peacefully, The Governor brings down the sword upon Hershel, slicing his neck. The heartbreaking scene is difficult to watch. The emotion behind the actors is award winning as you feel the same pain as they do. Rick, Maggie and her sister are iconic as believable characters. The bullets immediately start flying the moment Hershal falls to the ground. The Governer finishes the job by chopping off Hershel’s head. Michone escapes and Rick and The Governer go head to head in the fight of their lives. The moment Rick is down, Michone saves him by planting her sword in the Governer. As everyone takes cover, and makes an attempt to flee the now destroyed prison, Rick’s group is “broken” and separated. Judith is missing but a bloody car seat is left behind. Glen is on the bus with the people of Woodberry, while Daryl and others try to regroup after the destruction. The final scene is a heartwrentching one that is parallel to the comic book as Rick and Carl flee up the hill away from the ruins of the prison.
The action was non stop and it prompted me to re-read the books. I’m on book 7. This particular episode was more of a season finale than a midseason finale. The show is now elevated on many levels and I just hate that we have to wait until February to see what happens.
Read the books to pass the time!

Carrie 2013 “Movie Review”
Posted in Fantasy literature, tagged Author Lataeya Lane, Carrie 2013 movie review, Carrie movie review, Julianne Moore, new horror movie reviews, New Movie reviews, weekend is office on October 21, 2013| 1 Comment »
Carrie directed by Kimberly Peirce and starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore is the retelling of a classic, based on Stephen King’s novel. The story is about a religious teen girl that is extremely withdrawn and is consistently bullied to a degree that is unimaginably hurtful.
Carrie has the unique gift of telekenic powers and researches it’s origins, and tries to perfect her ability.
Carrie’s life is not just complicated at school, but her home life is also very difficult, as she deals with a religious crazy mother, (portrayed by Moore)Carrie is abused physically and emotionally. Its not until she is invited to Prom by Tommy Ross where she starts to defend herself. As she tries to recoup from a disturbing lockeroom prank she makes an attempt to try to fit in by accepting the invitation.
Prom night turns into a night of carnage as the final prank of the evening ends deadly.
Female directors are underrepresented in the world of Hollywood,so I must say that Peirce did a great job representing women in the industry. The film focused more on Carrie’s powers and the commotion among friends, but it still was entertaing. Chloe did a nice job holding her own, and Moore’s portrayal of Margaret was a unique take on an old character. The original role played by Piper Laure is irreplaceable and priceless.
I love the representation of Carrie’s powers in the movie, they had a life of their own and every time she used them, it sucked me in even more. The special effects were engaging and eye catching. If your looking for a lot of gore then this movie is for you. The anticipation to see the Prom scene intensifies with every moment.
I give this movie 3.5 stars.
Have a frightening week!!
