Marketing my urban fantasy novel Swept into the Darkness (Chronicles of the Celestial) Book one has been quite a challenge. I officially kicked off the paperback release with a Facebook release party, which took place November 27, 2012. That event was a great success. The next step in the promotional process will be a Book Blast, which will begin within the next few weeks, followed by a book tour. I finally made time to start my official author page on Facebook which is already on the verge of obtaining 100 “LIKES.” I hope to make that milestone and go beyond. Advertising on FB and Night Owl Reviews will be next in the process. In the mist of me working on all of this I am working on Book Two and Three simultaneously. Having my book reviewed is another aspect that is very important to me. I already have two reviews and expect more to trickle in as time goes on. My Goodreads promotion is also on the list of things to do. I have been spending so much time on promotion that it has taken away from my writing. With winter break fast approaching, I plan on finishing book two and hopefully I will have the chance to start the editing process so I can meet my 2013 publishing deadline. The second review to my book is also great. It is included below. It really is an honor to have the opportunity to have your work read by other people and to be understood as a creative entity. It’s a great feeling to have people to recognize, respect and be open to being exposed to part of a person that is so dear and sacred to them. To give an unknown author a chance to express themselves and be heard is magical. I really want to thank those who have given me that chance and believe in the work I create.

A great, well written read.
Take me to another world and show me all the things that go on – on these other planes.
Such an interesting read. Love reading about Angels, good and bad, and the fight that goes on between them.
But what an awesome twist that I certainly was not expecting ——-A new breed, and one that I have never even thought of.
Hooray for LaTaeya. You did a wonderful job making this your own story.
Also with the Greek Mythology, Egyptians, amongst the Angels and other creatures, I can’t wait to read a book 2, which I
sure hope there is going to be one.
What else can I say other than you have created a believer out of me, and made me a follower of your work.
Happy Reading!! L.L

Hello all!  In honor of Inde Author month which was in (October but extended into the end of this month)  I was told that I would be included in the event this week, hosted by a blog but my interview was never posted so I am posting the interview questions here.  Read on and I hope you enjoy it.

Author Interview

Swept into the Darkness (Chronicles of the Celestial Book One) lataeya1

If someone looked at your browsing history right now, what kinds of things would we find?

If my browsing history was reviewed right now, sites related to book tours would be found.  I am in the process of making plans for my tour and I have been researching for the best tour company and package that will meet my book promotional needs.

Other than book publishing, you will also find lots of sites for stores that sell baby products and equipment.  I have a four month old baby boy and I am looking for an activity center and swing for him to be entertained with.

If you could write about any subject that is near and dear to your heart, what would it be and why?

The subject that is near and dear to my heart, that I would like to write about is my pregnancy and birth experience.  Despite the aches and pains that come with being pregnant and having a baby, it is truly a beautiful experience of transition that brings real magic into the lives of the people being affected.

Even though my memories will never fade, I just feel that my experiences and feelings will become immortal once they are documented through the written word.

Do you have a favorite song, album or playlist that you write to?

My favorite song is “All Cats are Gray” by The Cure.  I do not play music when I am writing.  I usually have the television on low.  Some people may wonder how can write with the television on, but it is very easy for me, because when I write I am transported into the characters and worlds that I create and I do not get distracted easily.

What was the first thing you did after the debut of the first book you wrote?

Swept into the Darkness is the second book I have written, but the first I have had published.  The first thing I did after the debut of my book was sent a message via Twitter and Facebook announcing the official debut and book availability.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

My guilty pleasure is curling up on the sofa with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio and a good book.

What was your favorite book as a teen?

As a teenager my head was always buried in a book.  I had so many books that I favored so I cannot single out one book in particular but I did have a favorite series.  The Sweet Valley High books have a special place in my heart.  Once I read the first book I was hooked.  I loved reading and living the adventures of the twins Elizabeth and Jessica.

If an aspiring writer asked for advice, what would you tell them?

My answer would depend on what advice that asked me in particular, but I would tell them to write things they are passionate about, always be as descriptive as they can and be sure to draw in your readers by using good character development, detailed language and captivating plot conception.

What is your favorite movie?

I am what you can call a movie buff.  I love movies so much that I also do movie reviews  on my blog.  My favorite movie of all time is The Lord of The Rings trilogy.  It is also the best book to movie adaptation.  Jackson did an impeccable job staying true to Tolkien’s vision while making his own mark upon the world of cinema.

The first book in my Chronicles of the Celestial series, Swept into the Darkness had a book release party on Facebook this past Tuesday.  In celebration of the paperback release, the party consisted of many games and activities to encourage readership.  As an incentive several prizes will be given away to the winners.  The theme was centered on angels and vampires, which is a major component in the books. The event was well planned by host Jessi Gibson, and the turnout was impressive. The whole experience was really amazing.  The fast paced event gave me the opportunity to interact with so many people that were interested in my book.  I am looking forward to having another event when I release the second book in the series “Swept into Betrayal.”  Thank you so much to Jessi Gibson and everyone that supported me during my release party.  It is very special to be able to connect with you the way I was able to.  Thank you.

Right now I am currently typing the second book and working on PR for the first book.  The PR process is never ending.  I am looking for readers to review my book, so if anyone is interested in reviewing Swept into the Darkness Book one, feel free to contact me at Lataeya.com

As we all start the recovery process from Hurricane Sandy, slowly I have started to get back on track with everything.  My heart goes out to all the families that lost their homes as a result of Sandy.  May God be with you and deliver you out of this disheartening period in your lives.

I usually don’t blog this early but the baby is sleeping and work is delayed because of the snow so I decided to take this opportunity to write a long overdue blog post.  I will begin with updates concerning Swept into the Darkness Book one.  My promotion was delayed because of the storm, but now things seem to be falling into place again.  I am waiting for the latest edition of my proof to arrive, which I ordered a few moments ago.  As soon as I review it and approve it, the paperback will be available for purchase.  I am striving for perfection and that takes time, patience and money.  It’s amazing how long and tedious publishing a book can be.  On my original timeline, book one and two were supposed to be published and available to readers.  When it is finished it is finished.  Despite all the work that comes with publishing, I really love it.  The more I write and work on my books the more passion I gain for my craft.  The feeling is indescribable.

Announcements will be made on my blog as well as via Twitter and Facebook once the book is up for purchase.  My Facebook release party is in a couple of weeks.  I am just waiting to confirm my official date and will announce that once I get more info on that.  If you cannot wait for a paperback, Swept into the Darkness is available on all distribution channels as an eBook, which includes Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com

Book two in the Chronicles of the Celestial Series will be titled Swept into Betrayal.  The book is in the process of being typed.  It is complete but I am making some changes as I go along.

There are many promotional events that are being planned for the release of Swept into the Darkness.  As they begin to unfold I will make sure that they are announced.

Be Safe, Happy and Healthy

Happy Reading and Writing

Paranormal Activity 4 directed by Henry Joost and starring Katie Featherston takes place five years after Katie kills her family and kidnaps her nephew baby Hunter.  Hunter now known as Robbie, along with Katie are the new residents of a neighborhood in Nevada.  The moment Katie and Robbie move in across the street, Alice the teen that notices that Robbie is strange begins to experience paranormal events in her home.

The subtle noises in the night become elevated when Robbie is forced to stay a few days with Alice and her family.  Her friend Ben encourages Alice to video record all the strange activity.  Alice feels that Robbie is a bad influence on her brother Wyatt.  After viewing the tapes of recorded footage the teen is convinced that something maybe after her and her brother.  Alice ties to confront her mother about her findings, but her mother continues to not listen and ignore the signs.

Alice eventually discovers that Robbie may be linked to a coven of witches and a demonic force.  By the time she learns this information it is too late for her and her family.

The fast moving movie really was pointless and did not answer any of the questions franchise fans want to know concerning Katie and Kristi’s past that involve the demonic creature.  The movie was done the same way as the others.  A bump here, a crash there, then suddenly Katie pops into the home and randomly kills everyone.  Katie makes a statement at the end of movie telling the possessed Wyatt that “he will be ready soon.”

For those of you who still plan to see the movie, I will not give any more away, but to tell you the truth, I should have gone to see Taken 2, which I am three weeks late seeing.  I am not going to go over special effects or score, because this movie did not bring anything new to the franchise at all.  This movie should have gone straight to DVD and Netflix.  I cannot believe that the production company wasted money to release a movie like this.  I give Paranormal Activity 4 two stars.  I hope they do not make another one for next Halloween.

As a horror fan, I was disappointed and screamed only once.

Happy Reading!!

Sinister directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Ethan Hawke and Juliet Rylance follows the life of writer Ellison Oswalt as he makes an attempt to write his next best-selling novel.  As he struggles to get back on his feet, he begins his writing journey with moving into a new home that has a horrid past.  Keeping that past a secret from his wife and children, Ellison is best known for writing books centered around real murderers and murder victims.  As the family deals with preexisting strain it does not take long for Ellison to realize that it was a mistake to move his family into the house.

After the official move, Ellison discovers a box of home movies in the attic.  Believing that the movies could be useful research for his book, Ellison views the films and learns that strangely the home movies consist of footage of the actual murders.  As he continues to view the films, he is drawn deeper into the darkness that comes with being in the house.  When paranormal disturbances become prevalent, Ellison learns that there is a dark entity that potentially is the source of the murders.  The dark entity is an “eater of children” and consumes their souls over the course of time. When Ellison’s children become the target , the survival of his family is number one priority.  For the first time, Ellison transitions into a “real believer.”

Usually before I see a movie, I have some kind of background knowledge about it.  In this case I knew nothing about the film or what to expect from it.  Derrickson did a great job with the team of writers, production crew and visual effects artists to create a horror film that was meant to live up to the goal of scaring you. Overall the movie was well done.  The script was written well and the character development was realistic in its delivery and was presented in a way that was believable.  Ethan Hawke is not normally seen in this type of film,, so it was a pleasure to see him take on a character like Ellison. The score and sound were two other elements that added to the fear and made the movie more intense.  The score was an extension of telling the story and created a more balanced component to the film.

The idea of a demonic entity preying on children obviously has been done time and time again but It still brought a freshness to the world of horror.  I highly recommend this movie as part of your Halloween film list this season.  All the theatrical elements combined make this movie very haunting and entertaining.  I give Sinister four stars for its dark and malicious components that “draw in” the horror movie fan that gets a kick out of “things that go bump in the night.”

See you in theaters!!

How can a person be caught in a web of negativity?  There are so many things that can go on in a person’s life that can contribute to that.  The web is life and the things that make up life.  The negative aspects are obviously very overwhelming and vary in capacity.  What makes the whole thing even more difficult is the fact that you are stuck within a realm that is consistently holding you back mentally, spiritually and physically.  Sometimes you may feel like it is impossible to move forward or live up to the greatness that you are supposed to be and live.  Many people may say  “just remove that negativity from your life”  But I say that it is not that simple.  It takes time, patience and planning.  You must endure or tolerate certain negative aspects in your life so you can begin to set up the necessary building blocks to take one step at a time to move in the direction of the path you want to take.   The direction of positive change and high potential.  The whole idea is a process on its own but the end result will be good no matter how far away you think the journey is.  So no matter how tight my legs are tangled in the web, I will always manage to wiggle free, and embrace my creativity turning the web of negativity into weaves of positiveness and great success by overcoming my challenges and rising above it all.

So much has been going on with my book since I last blogged about Swept into the Darkness.  The paperback version on my book will be coming out early October and will be sold on Amazon.com.  Currently I am reading the proof copy of the paperback.  I will be making some subtle changes within some of the chapters. It’s amazing the mistakes you can find even after you have read and reread the book several times and even had it edited multiple times!  October is also Indie Author month, and to celebrate all Indie authors I will be participating in a Facebook book promotion.  The event has been extended until the end of November so I will have a book cover spot on November 26th.  Also my official book release will be coming up soon and the actual dates will be announced via my site and twitter once I get those dates approved by my book release host.  That event will also take place on Facebook and will be by ” SPECIAL INVITATION ONLY.”  I am in the process of obtaining some nice prizes for my upcoming Goodreads promotion which will be announced within the next couple of weeks.  In addition to that I am looking for readers to review my book.  So if anyone is interested in providing me with a review please drop me an email and I can send a PDF copy of my book to be reviewed.  I am only looking for the serious reviewer.

As I am working on promoting Swept into the Darkness Chronicles of the Celestial book one, I am typing up book two and writing book three.  Busy, busy, busy.  Please note that this weekend I will post part three of my fall movie preview series.  I know that many of you have been coming on to look at my previews.  I apologize for being late with part three.  I just have been so busy with my book not to mention that I have a new baby at home.  🙂

Happy reading and writing!!!

The LionsGate and GhostHouse production of the film The Possession directed by Ole Bornedal opened this Labor weekend.  The so-called “Based on a True Story” was not the horror movie that it claimed to be.  Starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffery Dean Morgan, the movie tells the story of a divorced couple, making an attempt to raise their two daughters in two separate homes.  One weekend as the girls spend time with their father in his new home, he takes them to a local yard sale to find items for the house.  His youngest daughter Emily is drawn to a large antique box and ends up buying the box.  Curious over the box it’s self and the possible contents inside the box, the daughter quickly becomes obsessed with it.  Slowly her father notices that his little girl is demonstrating odd behavior at home.  Her life at school is also affected to the point where her dad tries to separate her from the box.

Her downward spiral and her social and physical demise is fast-moving.  The obvious psychiatric evaluation is recommended as well as doctors appointments and MRI’s are scheduled in order for the parents to seek answers in what is wrong with their daughter.  Once medical issues are ruled out the father puts two and two together and learns that his daughter is possessed.  As he familiarized himself with the concept of possession, he realizes that his daughter must have an exorcism.  Finally embracing his heritage, Clyde makes contact with a Jewish priest to seek advice and plead for him to exorcise the demon.

This movie was not what I thought it would be.  The Sam Raimi element of the film to me was non existent.  The special effects were minimal and  the demonic transformation was disappointing.  The movie was not original and had elements of The Unborn, Emily Rose, The Devil Inside, and The Exorcist wrapped up into one film.

The acting skills were pretty basic, and that was not a negative reflection on  Sedgwick and Morgan.  I think it was the lack of commitment and passion from the writers.  Just because the story is “based on true events” does not mean that the writing can be dull.  Just the idea alone is not good enough.  The writing must be passionate so it can transform the story into something that will “Pull us in”.  It was a nice surprise to see Melrose Place’s bad boy Grant Show make an appearance as Stephine’s new man.  The character was really pointless, he took up space in the house and that is all.  The score was not that impressive and did not enhance the movie.

Overall this movie would be best to watch on Dvd or Netflix on a Friday evening when there is nothing else much else to do.  I give this move two and a half stars.

Happy Reading and Writing

The second movie within my fall preview series is a film called The Possession.  Produced by Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures this movie follows the true story of a family experiencing demonic possession.  When a little girl becomes crazy obsessed with a small-sized wooden box that she purchased from a local garage sale, life in the home starts to get unsettling.  As Em’s obsession for the box grows, her behavior becomes more peculiar with time. The haunting activity within the home is indeed disturbing.  Em’s parents do everything they can to seek answers as they make an attempt to save their daughter from the evil spirit that inhabits her soul.

I know some of you may say ” Not another demonic possession movie!”  but really as a true horror fan, for me I can not get enough of these type of horror movies.  Always excited about what Raimi produces creatively, I feel that this movie is going to do well for opening weekend.  Starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffery Dean Morgan, Raimi will no doubt fill seats in theaters in anticipation for this film.  I am looking forward to seeing some classic Raimi represented in the film and hope that this makes a lot of noise at the box office.  The movie is  expected to open in theaters August 31st.

Check out the trailer below, Enjoy!!
